Rema Hammami is a member of the Awards Committee and Professor of Cultural Anthropology at the Women’s Studies Institute of Birzeit University, Palestine. She was research supervisor and steering committee member of the Women’s Affairs Research and Training Center (Nablus), and co-founder, research co-ordinator and Executive Director (1993-94) of its Gaza chapter. Hammami was Chair of the Birzeit University Right to Education Committee (2002-04) and Prince Claus Chair in Development and Equity, Institute of Social Studies, The Hague (2005). She is a member of the Jerusalem Center for Legal Aid and Counselling, Palestinian Institute for the Study of Democracy (Muwatin) and Miftah. She has published numerous papers and articles on gender, anthropology, civil society and politics; co-edited the Annotated Bibliography on Palestinian Women (1991) and Analytical Studies of Political and Social Attitudes in Palestine (1997) and is on the editorial board of Middle East Report, Jerusalem Quarterly File, Feminist Review and Development and Change.
